AB Differentiation of naive CD4+ lymphocytes into either Th1 or Th2 cells
is influenced by the cytokine present during initial antigen priming.
IL-4 is the critical element in the induction of Th2 response; however,
its origin during a primary immune response is not well-defined. Here, a
novel source of IL-4, the class I-selected CD4-CD8-TCR alpha beta+ T
cells, potentially implicated in the development of specific Th2 immune
cells, is reviewed.
